NEW: GBBC & CBC 2022 Final Results
What |
GBBC India is the Indian implementation of the global Great Backyard Bird Count, which runs for 4 days every February. Indian birders have participated in the GBBC since the event went worldwide in 2013. |
---|---|
Why |
Most importantly, it’s fun! But there is a serious aspect as well. These annual snapshots of bird populations help answer a variety of important questions, including how birds are distributed across the country, how they are affected by changes in habitat and weather, and whether populations and distributions might be changing from year to year. In addition, you can use the opportunity of this event to get others involved in birding, to reach out to the general public, or even to run a local or regional project!
If you live or work on campus, then you may be interested in the Campus Bird Count that runs alongside. |
When |
18–21 February 2022 |
How |
Go birding for at least 15 min, listing and counting all the species you see. It doesn’t matter if you can’t identify every single species — what you can identify is good enough! Login to www.ebird.org/india and submit your species list. For those new to eBird, read the brief description, and do go through our detailed beginner’s guide; create an account and start using eBird right away to get used to the platform. |
Who | GBBC India is coordinated by the Bird Count India collective, a coming-together of a number of groups and organisations that are interested in birds, nature and conservation. Do join us! |
The 2021 edition of the GBBC engaged over 2900 birders who uploaded over 31,355 checklists and reported 965 species.

Any one 1 person from the group can submit the event form.
Hi, is there any other ID of the GBBC where checklist has to be shared …
Hi Reshma, there is no ID. All checklists that are at least of 15 minutes and above and complete lists made from 18 to 21 Feb will automatically added to GBBC.
Will the routine ebird checklist in ebird app is enough? Or do we need to do seperately for GBBC
The routine eBird checklists through the app is enough.
Please see the guidelines here: Go birding for at least 15 min, listing and counting all the species you see.
