Bihu Bird Count (BBC), are bird monitoring events initiated in January 2020 by the birders in Assam under the banner of the Assam Bird Monitoring Network (ABMN) in association with Bird Count India.

ABMN states the objective for organizing BBC as for the purpose of monitoring and documenting the avian diversity across different seasons. The BBC events involve birders in Assam to bird from anywhere during the days of various Bihu festivals and upload their bird lists to eBird.org/India. With lots of birders across the state doing this together during all Bihu festivals, a snapshot of birds in Assam will be built up; and this can be compared year after year to track changes in the birdlife.

Bihu, the primary festival of Assam is celebrated thrice in a year and hence Bihu Bird Count also celebrated triannually to monitor the bird diversity.

Click on each Bihu to read more about their significance and also to view results of previous bihu counts.
