If you’re new to eBird or birding, the following resources might be of help.

How-To Guides for Birding & eBird

If you are new to birding, here are some resources to get you started, from what you will need to watch birds, to get familiar with common birds around you.

A list of short videos and webinars regarding eBird can be viewed at Bird Count India’s Youtube channel.

The eBird Essentials Course

What is eBird and how can you use it to find more birds, keep track of your sightings and participate in events like the GBBC? You can get up to speed in just 3 hours, by trying the free eBird Essentials Course.

Merlin Bird ID

If you are new to birding, Merlin can be your birding coach. Merlin’s latest India pack helps you identify over 1000 species. All you have to do is upload a photo of the bird or answer a few questions and Merlin will suggest the most likely ID. See this webinar recording on how to use Merlin Bird ID App.

You can download the following material about the GBBC. Please help by spreading the word amongst your friends and contacts too!

Media Kit

You can download a GBBC press release in PDF format or an editable word document that you can alter to give details of local events and contacts if you so wish. Please circulate to your friends and contacts in the media.

We also have some excellent high-resolution images of birds and birdwatchers, available to be used in all GBBC 2022 publicity. Please do credit the photographer when using a photo. Posters for publicity will soon be made available in English Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, Odiya, Bengali, Assamese

Introduction to Birds and Birdwatching

We have put together a PowerPoint presentation on “An Introduction to Birds and Birdwatching”, which includes a section on birds in general, a guide to common Indian birds, and a section on Beyond Birding, with some slides about the GBBC. You are welcome to download this presentation, modify it for your audience and context and use it. There is an accompanying word document with notes for each slide, to help with the presentation. If you do plan to use the presentation, please do let us know; and afterwards, tell us how it went!
