Kashmir Flycatcher

Kashmir Flycatcher (Ficedula subrubra) is an endemic to the Indian Subcontinent with a very restricted breeding and wintering range.

It breeds in a small part of Kashmir that includes Srinagar and winters largely in the high altitudes of the Nilgiris in the Western Ghats and in Sri Lanka. Young birds and females have been found to winter in places like Gujarat and Bangalore so it is possible that “female type” birds have a slightly larger wintering range. Kashmir Flycatcher is sometimes seen around Delhi during spring passage, so look out for migrating birds in those areas during March/April!

Migration map

This animated migration map was created from observations uploaded to the citizen science platform eBird up until 2020. Where present, the inset graph depicts the seasonal likelihood of finding this species (i.e. the proportion of eBird checklists) within its range in India alone. We are grateful to the many birdwatchers around the world who have enabled the creation of this animation by sharing their observations on eBird.
