Have a thought for birds – let us together find out how birds are coping with floods.
There has been a postponement of the count by one week from the original date announced due to the disastrous flood situation in Kerala.Â
As a part of ongoing effort of Common Bird Monitoring Program (CBMP) of Green Partner’s Program from Social Forestry Wing, an Onam Bird Count is being organized on 31st August-3rd September 2018.
Download a poster of the results of Onam Bird Count 2014! (PDF 2.2MB).
For those people who participated in February CBMP or previous Onam Bird Count, there is absolutely no difference in methodology or protocol. Please try to upload as many 15 minute lists into eBird (ebird.org/india) during those four days from Friday to Monday.
If you are a birdwatcher who has not tried eBird or have bird-watcher friends who are not using eBird, please use these slides as an introduction.
If you have any questions, please do ask them in the comments below.
If you are birding outside Kerala, we have no way to know if your lists are part of Onam Bird Count. Hence, please share your lists with the account Maveli Birder
Could u plz tell the protocol and Methodology for onam birding
Thank you Sir for your query and interest.
Protocol/Methodology is quite simple.
You can do birding for 15 minutes – recording all species you see and can identify – by sitting/standing in one place (Protocol: Stationary) or by walking slowly (Protocol: Traveling).
You can do this type of birding any number of times in these four days.
You may go birding anywhere – alone or with other birders.
All these observations would need to be uploaded into eBird.
Hope this helps.
Do we have to add “onam bird count” as comment on checklists?
