Rongali Bihu or Bohag Bihu marks the beginning of the Assamese New Year. This is the time of the year when summer is setting in, and birds all around you will be busy with breeding activities. Aim of the Rongali Bihu Bird Count is to document the wide variety of birds in Assam, particularly those that breed in Assam during this time of the year.

With an incredible 66,155 checklists submitted, India secured the 2nd spot worldwide and recorded 1,086 bird species—the highest species count ever from the country in any GBBC. These numbers reflect the growing enthusiasm of birdwatchers and the collective power of citizen science in action.
