The Kerala Bird Monitoring Network (KBM) is a federated network of several NGOs, online groups, and birdwatchers across Kerala interested in monitoring all the birds of this rich and diverse state. Formed as a WhatsApp group in 2015, the group coordinates various monitoring programs across Kerala. KBM has been Bird Count India Collaborator since the start of the ‘Collaborators’ programme in November 2023.

Bird Counts & Events
KBM coordinates the the state-wide Onam Bird Count (OBC).
OBC is an initiative similar to GBBC that promotes a four day bird during the festival week of Onam. See here for details.

KBM also coordinated the now concluded five year systematic bird monitoring known as the Kerala Bird Atlas.

KBM conducts a monthly count during the migratory season in the beaches of Kerala. This is known as Kerala Beach Combing. See here for more details.

Other Bird Monitoring Activities
KBM promotes all other nation-wide initiatives of Bird Count India and its partners and encourages its members to regularly contribute towards citizen science platforms like eBird. There are also nascent programs like Kerala Raptor Monitoring that is being attempted across Kerala. KBM released posters for 14 panchayats in Kerala and the honourable Minister of Forests released the same. Partner organisations of KBM conducts bird surveys in the forests of Kerala.
