Bird Count India (BCI) was formed as a consortium of several organisations and informal groups to collectively monitor India’s birds. We have mostly been able to do this thanks to the thousands of people who enter their observations into eBird every day. But that could not have happened without certain community leaders who travel that extra mile to get partner groups in their community interested in this same vision.
To streamline this process, BCI has started a Regional Coordinator Program to make known the existing community leaders and also enhance this network in an attempt to cover the entire country. The program aims to bring together such community leaders who have already been building the regional networks of bird monitoring into the forefront.
The Regional Coordinator (RC) will serve as the main link between the regional birding community and BCI collective. They act as first-level contacts for the community and they help find answers on questions about birding, birding events (e.g. GBBC), and bird monitoring programs (e.g. regional atlases) of their respective region. They also provide guidance on how to contribute effectively for such programs as well as towards citizen science in general. Birders who are interested in learning or participating in bird documentation in a specific region, may contact one of the RCs of that area.
While we continue to add more RC’s, we are pleased to welcome our current roster of Regional Coordinators (Click here).
Please note that the provided list of RC is not exhaustive, and we kindly ask for your patience as we continue to expand this team. In the meantime, if you have any inquiries regarding birding or bird-related information, you can reach out to us in the following ways:
