Nagaland Christmas Birding Challenge

ebirding-challenge-logo-800px-281x300Looking at the enthusiasm of birders during the Tokhü Emong Bird Count (TEBC), we now present a unique challenge for them- Nagaland Christmas Birding Challenge – an eBird challenge designed just for Nagaland birdwatchers! 

The eBird-Nagaland challenge is to post at least 10 lists from 22nd Dec- 31st Dec 2022. Here are the rules on how to participate in this challenge:

  • Upload at least 1 list everyday from 22nd December to 31st December 2022. 
  • Each list should be of at least 15 minutes duration or more
  • Each list should have counts of birds (no ‘X’) and marked as complete lists

General Instructions: 

  • You can bird anywhere you are in Nagaland- even a list or two from your backyard, garden, rooftop will count. 
  • You can also upload multiple 15 minute lists from a single site or from different sites.
  • Join this WhatsApp group to stay up to date regarding this challenge and other birding events in Nagaland.

Sub-challenges for each from 22nd- 31st December (optional)

To make this challenge more interesting and fun here is a list of sub-challenges for each day. If you do manage to meet the sub-challenges then send us the URL of your checklist list in the WhatsApp group. 

1. Day 1 & 2 (22nd and 23rd December)
Challenge of the Day- Bulbul
Find as many bulbuls as you can
(Species clue- Red-vented Bulbul, Red-whiskered Bulbul, Black Bulbul, Flavescent Bulbul, Black-crested Bulbul)

2. Day 3 & 4 (24th & 25th December)
Challenge of the Day- Sparrow
Find as many sparrows as you can
(Species clue- House Sparrow, Eurasian Sparrow)

3. Day 5 & 6 (26th & 27th December)
Challenge of the Day- Raptor
Find as many raptors as you can
(Species clue- Eagles, Falcons, Owls, Sparrowhawk etc)

4. Day 7 & 8 ( 28th & 29th December)
Challenge of the Day- Behaviour.
When you see any bird today, tell us what it was doing.

5. Day 9 (30th December)
Challenge of the Day- Checklist.
Try and upload as many checklists as possible.

6. Day 10 (31st December)
Challenge of the Day- Species list.
It’s the final day. Try and record as many bird species as possible.

Please upload all your lists by 10 January 2023 so that we can announce the results soon after that.
