June brings welcome rain to many parts of the country, and a number of species are in full breeding activity, so it is a very interesting month for birding. Here is the breakup of birding in India in the month of June 2018 (with previous month in brackets):
Number of birders: 995 (1,207)
Number of lists (all types): 8,500 (11,300)
Number of observations: 1.47 lakh (2.0 lakh)
The challenge for June was to upload at least 30 eligible checklists, with at least three of them containing a brood-parasitic cuckoo (details at the link above). Of the 995 eBirders in this month, 46 met the target. These are (excluding group accounts):
Dr. NISHAD PM
MetalClicks Ajay Ashok
Taukeer Alam Lodha
Vinay K L
Many congratulations to all of them!
From the names above, one was chosen using a computer-generated random number. That person is
who receives a copy of How to be a (bad) birdwatcher, by Simon Barnes as a small gift in appreciation.
