The World Wildlife Fund-India (WWF India) has launched a vulture estimating program across India. This is the fourth year of this program, which invites citizen birders, ornithologists, photographers, and naturalists to participate in the vulture census.

The count is from 7th September to 6th October 2024. Participants are encouraged to visit any of the locations where vultures have been spotted or are expected to be on any of the days listed.

This is a citizen science initiative to fill the knowledge gap about the vulture population. For participating please register clicking on this link: Vulture Count Registration Form

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE VULTURE COUNT

  • Counts to be conducted on any/ multiple days from 7th September to 6th October 2024.
  • Counts should ideally be between 6 am to 10 am.
  • Upload all lists through eBird’s mobile App.
  • We strongly recommend that you report all species in each checklist, not just the Vultures – if you include all species in a checklist, mark it as ‘complete’, otherwise mark it as ‘incomplete’.
  • All eBird lists made during this program should be shared with eBird User ID- wwfindia.raptor .
  • Some species are best identified by photographs so please try to take as many photos as you can.
  • Webinars will be organized for the volunteers on 6th September 2024, during which all details will be explained along with protocols and identification features. Details will be sent to registrants via email by 30 August by WWF-India Team.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Please submit all your counts before 10 October 2024

Photographs of the count, team, site, and species can be emailed to the Rinkita Gurav at [email protected]

Short tutorial videos and webinar recordings regarding eBird features can be viewed here.

If you have any queries regarding eBird, please email at [email protected]
