Hareli marks the beginning of the monsoon season and the important sowing of crops, especially paddy, after weeks of preparation. It’s a time when communities come together to celebrate with traditional dances, folk music, festive meals, and fun games. Unique customs like walking on Gedi (bamboo stilts), decorating homes with traditional motifs, and using medicinal plants are all part of the celebrations.
The rains bring more than just relief from the summer heat — they transform the landscape into a lush green haven, and the songs of birds fill the air. It’s also a wonderful time to spot resident birds as they display fascinating breeding behaviours.
Be part of this special season — celebrate Hareli by joining Chhattisgarh’s first-ever bird count — the Hareli Bird Count!
