August 2018 eBirding Challenge

The challenge in July was easy – to upload 31 checklists evenly over the two halves of the month. August beings a new challenge, and is an exciting month in which to prepare for the coming winter season.

August signals the start of the annual winter migration. Passage migrants on their way to Africa might show up during this month while birders have been reporting waders from different parts of India.

Exploring new locations might throw up an unusual species for your region, or might introduce you to habitat worth keeping a check on for the coming winter season!

The challenge in August is to upload at least 5 checklists a week. Of the total checklists submitted in a month, 2 should be from an existing eBird hotspot where you have not birded before.

Remember, each checklist must be of at least 15 minutes duration, and should be effort-based (i.e. Stationary or Travelling). The hotspot must be an existing hotspot.

Find a hotspot near you be clicking here.

Please upload all your lists by 5 September 2018 so that we can announce the results the next day.

Here are the general rules of our monthly challenges. And check out the yearlong challenges as well! You can keep track of fresh lists coming in from India at this page.
