Rosy Starling (Pastor roseus) is another iconic species whose entire global population winters largely in the Indian Subcontinent.
It breeds mostly in Central and West Asia, and in parts of Eastern Europe, and begins passing through Ladakh, northwestern and western India as early as July and August on the way to its wintering grounds.
Spectacular murmurations of tens of thousands of Rosy Starlings are seen in parts of Gujarat and central India during winter, very similar to the European Starling murmurations seen in Europe.
