Pongal Bird Count | Tamil Birder’s Meet| eNewsletter of TamilBirds

Tamilbirds was launched on 19 October 2006 in response to the need for a forum for discussions about the birds of Tamil Nadu and the conservation issues related to them. Developing a network of the birdwatchers in Tamil Nadu, exchanging information on the status and distribution of birds in the state and gathering more information on the Important Bird Areas (IBAs) of Tamil Nadu, verifying the data in the accounts for each IBA site and identifying the gaps, with the aim of periodically monitoring these sites and seeing what is happening there, were among the other objectives of creating the Tamilbirds group.

Compiling and updating a comprehensive checklist of the birds of Tamil Nadu was another goal of  Tamilbirds. It was envisaged that this group would be useful in organizing periodical get-togethers of birders in the state and that it would facilitate exchange of information and enable birders to come together for conservation of birds and their habitats in Tamil Nadu.
